So there will be less posting of me driving TAZ the Vivio. I switched off the insurance from it to my 1988 Justy with the EFI conversion for the Coming Winter. Seems like there are just 2 seasons: Nice driving Spring Summer and Fall, ;D which seems to only be 5 to 6 months tops. Then there is Icy snow covered streets which provide worlds of fun as long as: Nobody else is on the road!
Worlds of fun provided you can see out the frost covered windows and are warm enough to feel the steering wheel.
Last year I traded my 1995 Justy for the Vivio in January. But since the Taz is only front wheel drive and so far rust free I didn't drive it till Spring. So that meant I was driving the 88 from January till May with little to no heat or defrosting abilities.
I was reminded of this, in the morning on the drive to work in the 88 as it was just below freezing this morning.
Doing a little research on the interweb thingy and I discovered what may have been my folly. When I finished putting the 88 back together I was being a little too fiscally responsible(CHEAP) and reused blended used antifreeze purchased from the wrecker.
This reacts with the residue of the last antifreese and gums up with wax the already now 23 year old heater core. Which will have layer upon layer of calcium buildup.
This all translates into a heater core that is not flowing much coolant nor allowing said coolant to transfer any heat to the passing airstream.
Now the big fix which I might still have to resort to, involves removing the dash inorder to change out the heater core.
Not having much time to dedicate to routine maintence like this, I will try doing a flush, treat the core with Acid while still in the car trick.
