AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The oil pump, or pickup, stopped working during run-in..... MOTHER TRUCKER!!!
All my work, gone.
Wanted: Fully rebuilt and ready to install EK42.
Honestly, I've had enough, of rebuilding anyway. Now I just want to swap and go.
Let me know how much including freight to Adelaide, SA.

I've had a sleep on it... going to follow your lead lincolntbird... Justy EF10 pistons, hone out the cylinders, replace the oil pump rotors.
I MUST take the engine out and strip it again to see what damage has been done, so might as well get brand new pistons in while I'm at it. No more mucking around with second hand.

Check your balance shaft chain whilst you are at it, it most likely will be stretched.

Okay, the better but more long term solution. I don't mind assisting in getting those piston's to you if required, However I think you should have a look inside the engine to see if maybe the pistons are scuffed or not first!

Question, did the engine seize or did you catch it just on low oil pressure warning? As justyfied said you will want to check your pistons & bores, but you will also need to check the crank & cam & try to find the reason for the loss of oil pressure. Hope this helps, because you have done such a fantastic job with the first rebuild with all the photos etc. If you do go with the same pistons I used check my posts on the necessary mods.

I can crank the engine over by hand, and when I do that it tries to start for bit, but then sounds like it's just disengaging the starter due to too much resistance.
The pistons were already scuffed a little, and the second hand one I installed needed work to get it to fit right. As it isn't seized, but will just not start I MUST strip it again.
It is on hold, though, at least until the new year.

Well the VB is done and ready for sale. Hopefully I find a buyer soon and I can crack back into the Sherpa. If you're interested the VB is on Carsales. www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Holden-Commodore-1979/SSE-AD-3175471But yeah, I really doubt the pistons are worth using again so I'll take them out, hone the cylinders and get new EF10 pistons. Sounds like the best option for reliability.

Hey lincolntbird, how much would two of those Justy pistons cost, plus postage to Adelaide SA, postcode 5114? Now the VB is done no time like the present to crack back into the Sherpa.

UPDATE I've been stuck in limbo waiting for dates from work about moving interstate so I've had no idea how long I have to fix the Sherpa. Not knowing I haven't started, and it has now been over 10 months since the oil pump failure, would have been plenty of time to fix it. I hate work sometimes. SO, the VB was sold (read swapped) for a VS V8 Statesman. I got the better end of that deal. I then fixed up some issues on the Stato and sold it a week ago, yay! The Monaro developed a diff problem, the pinion bearing was worn out and VERY noisy. I've since swapped in a reconditioned diff with better 3.73:1 gears. Should have done that years ago. It is now my daily drive. Hopefully in a week I will have dates from work and therefore a clear deadline to rebuild the Sherpa EK42 again with the new pistons you guys helped me with. I miss driving my little fun box.
