Welcome aboard Simon/Indiannaj.Glad to have you here and if there is help for your M70,This is the place. First thing is to make sure your account/membership is activated. There will be a link in an email sent to the email address you used when you registered.
About your car, you say it is an 88 m70. M70 is the name Subaru used for the Rex derivative in Europe and some other small markets around the world. It refers to a vehicle that Subaru envisioned as being useful as a small delivery vehicle. In some case's it had a higher roof and no side windows in the back. Now the 88 model year saw alot of changes depending where you are and which model was sold there. For instance the Sherpa,a close cousin of your car sold in Australia was last made in the Classic body style up to and including 88. Then in 89 for just 1 more year the Sherpa name carried on with a new body style before no longer being sold down under.
In the reply you posted as a guest about the Japanese Rex you included pictures of an early Rex Body style. Does your M70 look like that or does it look like what is called a "VIVIO". Which has a much shorter looking nose and a more flat sided cube like appearance than the Rex.
Whichever Body style you have is no matter, Help to locate parts and get your little car back on the road is on the way.If you could load some pictures of your car onto a web photo housting site, and then post them here it would help. Especially some pictures of your brakes.
Also while you are here have a look in the Factory service manual here under the Sherpa section. There is some dimensions listed for brake sizes that will be helpful to compare with what you have.
