Hi folks, I recently bought a Sherpa as a cheap run around. It needed a couple of little things to get it running nicely. I went to clean the points the other day and noticed that the contact breaker in there appears to be the wrong one. I took it out and cleaned it up but am having a very hard time getting in back in and gapping it properly. As a result, the car is now undrivable The local auto shops can't find a part number for it. Does anyone know what the part number would be for this? Anyone know where a supplier might be? Thanks. Chris.

Welcome aboard the Forum, Sorry I cannot help you out with an actual Sherpa Part number at this time but I have a link around somewhere to a European list of parts, I will check it out and post on that later to see if it lists one for the old REX with an EK42. Thanks justyfied. I'd already stumbled across that web page. It's my "go to" as I don't have a hard copy of the manual. That's for an earlier Sherpa than mine, with a different body, but many of the things are still the same.
Mine is an '89 model, which was the last of them. They changed the body with the 88/89 and it looks pretty similar to the Australian Fiori, which was a 3 cylinder. Not sure how it compares to overseas models.
If you do manage to find that Euro part number I'd be in your debt. I've gotta get this thing fixed and back on the road. Alarmingly, there was smoke billowing from the steering column area when I started the car up after re-fitting the contact breaker too. Not sure what's going on and I'm pretty ignorant with auto electrics.

Okay, so the link which is here: opposedforces.com/parts/Only really works I think for 1990 and newer and it doesn't list the Mini Jumbo, or actually M80 which is what your more flat sided 1 year only(89) Sherpa body is called in Europe. For the 1990 3 cylinder E12 which has a flat version of the Justy 1200cc, it lists a breaker point number: 22145KA050 Are you getting Stone walled by your unhelpful Subaru Parts man at the Dealership? Are they unwilling or unable to lookup the part number for you? What I would do is to go down to a Breaker or Wrecker near you and find points from a similar car such as a Diahatzu, Suzuki, or Nissan/Datsun. It seems that there are many common parts, especially electrical parts shared by Japanese manufactures. Also have a look at the smoke under the dash thing as it is more typical for the top of the dash to have a rust spot that will allow water onto your electrical connections up under the dash! Electrical shorts have a way of melting other perfectly good wires and leaving you with a real mess if not looked at.

Here is an aftermarket one listed in English, show's their part number. If you click on the part it opens up to a page that list 2 Sabaru part numbers: 39146-4312 39146-4302

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to make sure I had the right parts before I responded.
It turns out Subaru Australia were helpful this time. Wonders never cease. They said the correct Subaru part number is 22186KA010. They wanted $32.97 Aust for it. Through a few contacts I was then able to find a $9.00 Bosch equivalent. Bosch part number GD214 refers. Bosch parts books have the part as being GD207, which is incorrect. The GD214 is the right one and happens to be a mirror image of the GD207.
I popped the part in this arvo and couldn't believe it. My quick test drive showed the car running fantastically. There was no sign of the problem that has lead me to replace some of the electrical components, including this contact breaker.
Justyfied, I appreciate your help. I know where to come now if I'm having issues! There are a few other things I need to do to the car and I'll update in the appropriate sub-forums then. Thanks.
