Around these parts most people drive a big crew-cab 4 door 4X4 pickup truck to work. If they own a mid-size car they leave that for the significant other, (Wife!) to drive.
Now in our family, we do have a big Chevy Suburban 454cubic inch V8 with 4X4, which my wife drove until we bought the Toyota Sienna van.
I like to drive the smallest car I can find, to work or to do errands like pickup a few groceries. Invariably when people find out my Vivio only has a 660 cc engine they say:
IT must get great fuel mileage!
I really could not give 2 hoots about the fuel consumption.
I like to drive a SMALL car because it is small, easy to find a parking spot for. Easy to zip around in, in rush hour traffic. Plus it by nature of it's lite weight, corners really well.
There does seem to be some people seeing the light about buying a smaller car, as the Smart car has quite a following and the newly released Fiat retro 500 is selling well. The Fiat is a little on the large side for my tastes.
The smart car is not very practical as it is just a 2 seater and will not handle doing grocery getting duties well.
That is why I like my Subaru Vivio, as you can see by this pic it is the same width as the Smart car but it not only actually has a trunk with room for a spare tire and lots of groceries. It has a back seat suitable for my kids to ride around with me too! all that and it is only a little bit longer than the Smart.
Anyway I recently had the opportunity to park my Vivio beside a Car that is Too small for even me!
While Iam bigger than average I still fit into the Taz okay but this car is so small there is no way I could sit in it and then get the door closed. There is a picture a friend who is 6 foot 6, 2 inch's taller than me trying this car out.
Here is a side by side shot of the Autozam AZ1 and TAZ.
While these little rear engine rear drive cars are really neat to look at, I found out that the rear weight bias limits it's cornering ability severely. It over steers quite abit compared to the Taz and would not be good for some spirited driving!
