Bonnyfan/Brian Great to have you here, You have a Rex and not a Sherpa in New Zealand? That is cool I know you guys there in New Zealand got both the 700 series chassis and the Justy as well! Love to see pictures of it, and don't worry, we won't judge you if it is a little dusty! Anyway, best I can do for engine rebuild gasket info was posted in the following thread, give it a read.: classicsubarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=chatrex&thread=100&page=1

Thanks Justyfied, Yes was marketed here as the 700 Rex and the van was called a Domingo,we also had the Justy 1.0 litre and the 1.2 litre in both 2wd and 4wd and later the 1.0 4cyl Ace. I will try and get some photos of the Rex and put them up. Thanks for the link for the gasket set, have tried but comes back as invalid e-mail . Great to hear from you and thanks again, regards Brian.

Brian, Yes I knew about New Zealand getting all of the Justy models and engine sizes, some of the oldest original Justy's went there (1984). Can't wait to see a picture of your REX, especially the Dash , grille and Tailgate. Been awhile since I researched these cars, Forgot who got the "ACE" Never heard of a 1.0 liter 4 cylinder engine in an "ACE" Is that the newer Non Subaru Rebranded with the Ace name, What year was it made?

Hi all, The Ace was a genuine subaru product and was sold here in 1991 and marketed as the ACE clover 4. it had decals saying that and the 4 was the number of cylinders. I sold subarus new for 10 years and sold a ACE to my mother in law and my wife inherited it on her passing,it was an absolutely brilliant car and would still have it if my son had not written it off. TO lincolntbird, no we never got the supercharged rex 544 over here but i heard they were a lot of fun, sorry i cant help. I just recently sold my 1986 vortex 1.8 ea82 turbo, manual 5 speed 4wd with digital dash and electronic height control in factory metallic red with ivory lower half, too many cars not enough time, great hearing from you guys, cheers Brian.

Hi Guys, I have been using REX to go to work in, i had forgotten what fun they were to drive and just how economical they are to run. I got the standard main bearings no problem but the big end shells were a bit more of a problem. After getting the shells that the replacement books showed, they were too small. It turns out they had a crankshaft change from 38mm to 42mm midway through 1983 and the standard big end shells from a 3cyl justy did the trick. I was fortunate enough that the crankshaft was in mint condition and i gave it a light polish and replaced the shells. I made a new sump gasket and reassembled the motor. I have had the front of the bonnet repaired where they seem to rust out on front edge, and there is no other rust anywhere else. I will certainly have to enlist your help i n downloading photos and will be in contact very soon. the photos of the interior wont show much as the first owner had seat covers sewn over original seats before he took delivery. 1 will take some photos of grill and interior this weekend and contact yourself or Lincolntbird re down loading them, kind regards to you all, cheers Brian.

Brian, Congrats on successfully redoing the bottom end. Obviously you are handy and resourceful, your 700 picked the right person as an owner. In case you had not seen this link about posting pictures, The main part of the info is still valid however Photobucket has since changed the look of their site and it looks a little different. classicsubarujusty.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=guides&action=display&thread=126

Hi Brian, Looking forward to see your pictures . Did you just do bearings or did you do rings etc as well? Where did you get your parts from ? I am running a Sherpa as my service vehicle & am looking for sources for engine parts ;D. Cheers....lincolntbird.

Thanks sikari2015 for the link to Precision International, I just had a quick look, it looks like a good & helpful site. Will you be going oversize with pistons & bearings or will you be able to get away with standard? I have a spare engine that I might look at rebuilding so that I have a good back up engine, as I use my Sherpa as a service vehicle 5 days a week.

Hi All, Sorry about lack of photos, i am waiting for someone with more advanced computer skills than me to get them on the site. To Lincolntbird, i only replaced bearings as the rest of the motor was good, and i did not want it sitting around for months waiting for parts. After a false start getting bearings from a so called parts consultant who refused to answer emails when told he procured the wrong ones, i got them from a local engine builder who got them overnight. The main bearings are STA brand and part number is MS1126 STD which are for a 42MM crankshaft. the correct big end bearings are NDC brand and part number is CB-2301GP STD and these are for a EF10 motor which are 42MM and come with 6 shells for a 3 cyl motor. Other listings show the part number for big end shells as CB-2303GP STD but are for a 38MM crank and for a EK23 , but as i said in earlier post, both crankshaft sizes were used in this model. If you find yours has the 38MM crank i have a set of new big-end shells you can have for the price of freight, the precision site looks great and i wish i had that available to me when i started, best wishes to you all, cheers Brian.
