I bought a 1987 Sherpa! HA! So after rebuilding the engine in the Gold 83 Sherpa the oil pump failed on run-in, causing the engine to stop. So that needs a second rebuild and I bought new pistons through this forum (thanks guys) but never got around to doing the second rebuild. After 15 mins of running-in, having the engine you just spent weeks rebuilding fail kind of destroys you. I transferred my energies to other projects and cars. But this month in my regular perusal of Gumtree for cheap, potential profit flip cars, I found a 1987 Sherpa for sale. Only $700, running and registered! Bargain that I couldn't turn down. It's white, with only small amounts of rust (less than the 83), but has a few more dents and scratches. The engine has apparently had the valves done, but is leaking from the rear main (best guess) so that will need to be done. Also it sounds rattly like the rockers/tappets need adjusting so I'll do that when I can find my feeler gauges. And here she is... I have plans for her, including swapping all the best bits from the 83 (including rear louvres) and then adding pinstripe and some reproduction stickers I'm getting made. I know a guy. Here's what they look like. Anyway, I'll keep updating. Oh, and if you haven't joined the Facebook Subaru Sherpa Owners page you should.

Oh, just for interest, the working 87 behind the non-working 83.
