Hello, I have decided to let you guys in on the fact that I now have what is for me a dream car of mine. It is a 1992 Vivio RXR with the EN07X which has the DOHC 16 valve supercharged and intercooled 660cc 4 cylinder engine. It was originally in Japan and imported to Canada. Iam the 3rd Canadian owner. I have owned 10 Subaru Justies in the past,( still have 5) but I really wanted one of these cars now for atleast 2 years. I traded a Running Justy for this car, did a minor repair, and have really been enjoying it since. Recently I had the chance to take it out to our local Drag strip. Note, the date stamp on my camera was out by 1 year! They have an open Friday night Drag session for licensed street cars every week. I cannot afford dyno time, but wanted to find out what this little thing would do while stone stock. Before I start modifying it for more power! I call my little terror: TAZ for the Lonnytoones Cartoon character. The one who is small and spins like a tornado as it cuts down anything in its path. Here is Taz in line to get Teched, Iam using steel 13 inch rims off of a Justy, no wheel covers are allowed while racing. I made 6 passes down the old 1/4 mile track, all very traction limited in first and sometimes half way thru 2nd gear.. My best E.T. was 17.361 and M.P.H. was 78.94Iam really happy with the results for a track like Race City at 3380 feet of elevation. Iam told that our Air density can be as high as 5000 feet sometimes. This means that a car can run 5 to 8 tenths quicker at sea level. Compare to the time posted in the other threads video, 16.597 over 400 meters which is 7.7 ft short of a quarter mile. I took the car to get weighed at our local truck stop, cost me $10.00 Dollars Turns out the car weighs 730 KG, 20 KG more than Wiki says it should. This is surprizing considering I took out the spare tire, jack, factory tool kit, Tire cover in the trunk plus the rear parcel shelf. Once my immensitude is added(with helmet) the car weighs 1895LBS or 860KGs. I know.... it was my HEAVY TAZ Floor mats,Steering wheel cover, Taz seat cover and Stuffed Taz Mascot! Here is a pic of the 2001 stock N.A. Imprezza I raced and was only Slower than by 1.1 seconds and 4 MPH. So I had a great time, I used the water burn out box every time and the sound of that little 4 banger revving to 9500 RPM as the tires burned off was cool

I bet that would be a fun little car that wouldn't cost much to run. We can't get those here in Aust as our laws prohibit imports after 1988 (or something like that). The RX-R would be the pick though, or maybe an RX-RA. I found one for sale here: www.j-spec.com.au/dealer/1995-Subaru-Vivio-5319690.htmlBy the way, manufacturers claimed weights are rarely accurate. They are often taken from dry, base models. Won't be hard to drop weight out of yours though. There's lots you can do, as I'm sure you know. What are the longer term plans for it? Any motorsport aspirations? Ditching the seat and steering wheel covers Gotta laugh at the GC8 too. NA with WRX kit and wheels. Why would someone do that? You should post some more pics of the car. Chris.

I bet that would be a fun little car that wouldn't cost much to run. Yup, about 40 MPG in town.We can't get those here in Aust as our laws prohibit imports after 1988 (or something like that). The RX-R would be the pick though, or maybe an RX-RA. I found one for sale here: www.j-spec.com.au/dealer/1995-Subaru-Vivio-5319690.htmlOuch, That Converts to well over $14,000.00 North American Dollars. Nice looking car, but it looks completely original with no extras. Too bad the Auz government changed the rule from any car 15 years or older. To has to be made in 1988. The only other way is with an approved Automotive Workshop that is going to have to charge thru the nose to be able to survive all the fees and get it thru a compliance. In short the RAWS system is very restrictive! which is intended I guess.By the way, manufacturers claimed weights are rarely accurate. They are often taken from dry, base models. Won't be hard to drop weight out of yours though. There's lots you can do, as I'm sure you know. Yes a diet,(For the car) is in the works. I will eventually start a build thread to answer about my plans for the car. What are the longer term plans for it? Any motorsport aspirations? Ditching the seat and steering wheel covers Gotta laugh at the GC8 too. NA with WRX kit and wheels. Why would someone do that? You should post some more pics of the car. Sure, under hood:Rear side view with original rims:and front:Chris.

It actually looks really tidy. Pull 100kg out of it and burn those seat covers and I reckon you'll be right. Can you wind the boost up a bit, without too many hassles?

Also, what's the orange thing in this pic? Not the leggy one that first caught my eye, but the car to the left of yours. I can't put my finger on it. Chris.

Yes I recently discovered a source for a nice aftermarket lower (Crank) Pulley. And if my translation is correct it is bigger which would mean more RPM= more boost from the blower. I have also seen where someone had a smaller pulley for the blower made too! More is always better except if it means size and weight!

Yes the Orange haired super Mom of those 2 nice young lads was very long and liner looking, (Leggy)! ;D The other orange thing is a Chevrolet Vega from the 70's. They came with an all aluminum 4 cylinder which was infamous for burning oil real bad just after the warranty expired. They became a very popular Hot rod because it was easy to swap in a V8.

A Vega? Never heard of it. I can see hints of early 70's Camaro and even Mazda RX4 in it though. That bird looks like she's doin alright for a mum too.
Don't go too far with the boost though. Where are these engines weak? The Impreza stuff has glass pistons. I wonder if the Vivo is the same?
Chris.

Here is a Vega in stock trim: And one with just a few mods that will do this: ;D If you really are still interested read this blogs extensive history on the Vega: www.freewebs.com/chevyvega/history.htmFar as Boosting or upping the boost from stock. Well I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the smaller your bore is the less sensitive to detonation is the engine. Plus the pistons are so small they are automatically liter and able to take higher pistons speeds (RPM). Thus not putting too much load on the comparatively large wrist or gudgeon pins. I have nothing to judge what Boost is stock but if it is what most manufactures set it at for a mass produced car for the public, it's around 7lbs . I feel that adding 50% more boost should be safe enough with more fuel of course!

Wow. That's a Holden (GM) Torana hatch with a different front end. Interesting. Sorry for getting off topic. Chris.

[quote/] Sorry for getting off topic. Chris. [/quote] No problem, I kind of like the front license plate on that Holden. Removing 100 kgs from Taz should be very easy: the A/C compressor doesn't work so the whole A/C system can come out. I don't see the need for an ABS braking setup on such a small car.Kind of like using a 1 meter high fence to hold in a champion jumping horse So then without the ABS there would be no need for the parasitic loss of driving the power steering pump which supplies hydraulic pressure for the ABS. Less weight more power, win win! ;D
