My Vivio would not idle properly and generally ran poorly. It is a bunch of work to disconnect all of the coolant and vacuum hoses. Plus the lower mount for the attached airbox is a pain to get at. Once it is all out, you can spray carb cleaner or something of the like inside the throttle body. It may seem like the little bit of black gummy stuff would not have much effect but it does. I feel that it ran better after being cleaned and reinstalled.

...It is a bunch of work to disconnect all of the coolant and vacuum hoses... Do you have coolant lines running through the TB? If so, have you considered disconnecting them? As the engine heats up the coolant in the TB will heat the housing up and the intake charge will be affected by the heat soak. It's a common mod on the Impreza. I believe they run the coolant through the TB for really cold climates where the air/fuel might freeze (would have to be crazy cold). There are guys here in Oz who have bypassed the TB's and the cars run fine in 0*C or colder. It's not going to give you 50kw but I imagine you'll be looking for every drop of power from that little engine. It's also a virtually free mod, so it must be good! Chris.

Every morning when I go to work the car hesitates if I try accelerating nicely(no high RPM starts like when Iam Dragracing). That is until half way there and everything is really up to temp. Since I leave for work so early in the morning I do not let it sit and idle for an eternity as I do not want my neighbors to kill me for waking them up. This symptom was worse when it was running mid grade gas with 89 to 91 Octane. Runs better with 94 octane which is as high as I can get. I hear in Japan they have an even higher octane fuel but than it is rated using a different system so it is hard to compare apples to oranges. So yes I might try putting a hose barb into the 2 hoses so that no coolant circulates thru the T.B. housing and see how it runs.
